HOW PEOPLE OVER 40
CAN GET RID OF READING GLASSES
WITH MONOVISION CORRECTION

WHAT IS MONOVISION CORRECTION, AND WHY IS IT HELPFUL?
At around age 40, most people find it more difficult to focus up-close than they did previously, because of a universal condition called Presbyopia. Monovision correction allows patients over 40 to see well both close-up and at distance, without glasses. This approach centers around a personalized assessment and treatment based on your daily vision needs, as well as on the natural neurologic balance between your eyes.
IS
MONOVISION CORRECTION RIGHT FOR ME? Anyone around 40 years of
age may be a candidate. This includes people who are seeking standard laser vision correction (LVC) to improve distance vision, as well as people who see well at distance but who use over-the-counter reading glasses. A screening test with our laser vision coordinator can identify good potential candidates.
DOES MONOVISION VISION CORRECTION COST EXTRA?
At Hudson Valley Eye Surgeons, Monovision Correction is included in the cost of the standard laser vision correction (LVC) package. There are no additional costs.
HOW DOES MONOVISION CORRECTION WORK?
Just as most of us are either right-handed or left-handed, we have all developed a neurological preference for a dominant eye. Unconsciously, we prefer to use the dominant eye for distance vision. Monovision Correction takes advantage of this natural preference, allowing the non-dominant eye to take on more of the near vision tasks. Monovision, an approach similar to Monovision correction, has been successfully used for years by many of our patients.
IS THE EFFECT PERMANENT?
With advancing age, our eyes usually need ever-stronger reading glasses. Thus, years after their procedure, even patients with focus-enhancing correction often need glasses for prolonged reading or for detailed tasks. Once the laser is performed, however, the correction will always be present in the treated eye, and gives lifelong assistance for moderate near-vision tasks such as reading menus, shopping, and using computers.
